Spot Description:
The shoalwaters ENE of the south west corner represents the highpoint on Stellwagen Bank. The biomass of cod and haddock move inshore to these waters in the spring to feed and spawn. The fish will follow shoals of bait in the area during the spring season and will be on the move. There is no particular structure in the area outside of the large schools of bait mostly herring and mackerel. Bottom sounders are the name of the game as you need to utilize to find these moving fish. Typically using zoom mode you can mark these fish hanging on the bottom. Once identified you can target these fish with high low rigs, jigs, and teasers of most any color. Tipping these baits with clams or squid works best. Early in the season this location ranging from 75-90 ft of water is a great shallow area to target ground fish on light tackle spinning gear and light jigs which makes this fishery a lot more enjoyable. When the water temps start climbing in mid June these fish will move off the shoals water into the deep cooler temps east of stellwagen making it a lot more work to target.
