There are tuna everywhere...... Welcome to September!!!
Intel
This is going to be mainly a tuna post since there is alot going on and some ground to cover.
There are very large fish around right now as evidenced by the 3 known 1000+ fish caught the past couple days on stellwagen. Stellwagen is still producing but middle bank has been more active this week and the south west corner has slowed down on volume. The big news on the giant front is that the fish are now way up into the bay and are being caught as far south as off Sandwich. Confirmed member hookup of a 96" fish today at the Path off Truro using live mackeral.
Another confirmed catch of a 725lb fish weighed in last thursday in sandwich that was caught a few miles north of the fingers in 90ft of water again on live macks.
This evidence that the fish are starting to follow their fall feeding patterns and you will soon see boat setting up in Cape Cod bay to target giants as the whiting move into the bay to spawn. Bluefin will start targeting whiting as the commercial boats drag them up in the bay. The fleet is already working the whiting hard around the 900 line the commercial tuna fleet will be close behind.
Recreational sized bluefin have moved in to the cape in good numbers on the eastern edge of Stellwagen. Sub 73" fish are keyed in and chasing halfbeaks providing for surface feeds allowing the jig and pop fleet to get into the mix for the first time this season. Today there was a number of top water hookups a few miles east of the south west corner almost to the shipping lanes. Siren and Ronz accounted for the hookups. The fish are fast moving and were not staying on top long but a number of fish are in the area.
Following the edge north there are repots of small fish all the way to jefferies. We have another confirm topwater catch today east of middlebank around the AB-6 weather buoy. Massive schools of halfbeaks getting chased by 100-200lb bluefin with a strageic angler fooling two fish.
As always lets us know of any reports positive or negative to pass along to the network.
