Tought week for inshore mackeral in MA. Pockets are still thick but the tinkers are now macking up the biomass. Larger mackeral are still around on the offshore ledges. As is typical its better in low light conditions.
Inshore Intel
Large bass altough not in big numbers are being caught in MA south shore locations from Duxbury north to Nahant. Multiple 50lb fish were caught and officailly weighed in this week.
Commercial bass season is in full swing and although the fleet is frustrated with the number of just sub legal bass (<34") there are a number of large fish hanging between billingsgate and peaked hill. Live bait continues to be the prefered taking as the top water and vertical jib bite has not materialized.
Fluke fishing on Lucas shoal has improved with more keepers being caught in recent days.
Sea bass have officially become an invasive species from Buzzards bay down to RI as they are now being caught as bycatch from fisherman targeting bass or other species. Fish have moved into deeper water as the temps rise and they move offshore.
Flounder fishing is holding on into July but will more then likely tail off after the temps warm after this heat wave. Green harbor is still producing well outside the jetties.
Offshore Intel
Haddock bite is still strong on stellwagen you have to target middle bank or more east.
Damon Saco's Hyannis Tuna fest was a bust last week with no fish landed during the weekend tournament.
As we hit July everyone is hoping this is the week that the offshore scene goes off with the rising water temps and the offshore canyons starting to fish well. Need one warm core eddy to really heat things up.
